The American Dental Association Seal of Acceptance

Posted .

There is a wide array of oral hygiene products available on the market today. It can be hard sometimes to spot the difference between a quality product and one that simply has a very persuasive marketing message attached to it.

At the same time there are several oral hygiene products that are only intended for cosmetic use, or to freshen your breath. The active ingredients in many of these products have no place in a truly effective oral hygiene routine.

In 1931 The American Dental Association started their Seal of Acceptance program, dedicated to helping consumers find the safest and most effective oral hygiene products for their family. Over the year the Seal of Acceptance has become the standard of quality for participating manufacturers.

Participation in the program is voluntary. Before a manufacturer launches a new oral hygiene product they can submit it to the ADA for testing and research. The ADA will then investigate the active ingredients and test the product for safety and effectiveness. If the product meets the rigorous guidelines, it will receive certification for the Seal of Acceptance to be printed on the label.

The ADA has also posted links on their website to help consumer sort through the index of all oral hygiene products that have earned the seal.

If you have any questions about the safety and effectiveness of the oral hygiene products your family uses, please feel free to call us at 801-773-5285 to schedule an appointment.
