Investing in Your Veneer’s Health

Posted .

You wanted a beautiful smile, and you got one by getting dental veneers. It was a great investment in your smile, but now is the time to make sure it stays beautiful for many years to come. Here are several simple tips you can follow to make sure your veneers keep looking great.

While the porcelain veneers are not subject to tooth decay, the enamel of the underlying teeth is still vulnerable. So you will still need to include them in your daily hygiene routine of brushing and flossing your teeth twice per day. Brushing the veneers with a soft bristled toothbrush and a nonabrasive toothpaste helps maintain their polished appearance.

Keep in mind that the enamel of your natural teeth is harder than the porcelain veneers. Biting into hard foods, or chewing on things like pens and pencils can sometimes cause minor chips in the porcelain biting edge. If you want to eat hard, crunchy foods, you should get in the habit of cutting them into pieces and popping them into your mouth.
