Getting a Dental Bridge? Here’s What to Expect

Posted .

If you’re about to replace a missing tooth with a dental bridge, then you’re on your way toward the top-notch smile and oral health you deserve! To help you prepare for your visit, our dentist, Dr. Grant Brough, is happy to teach you about the steps involved. Sometimes knowing what to expect can help wash dental nerves away. So, when you’re in the dental chair, you can expect the following things:

Step No. 1: Your dentist will make sure you are comfortable during your appointment by numbing the mouth, especially the anchoring teeth and the surrounding gums. Next, they will shave a little bit of the tooth enamel from the anchoring teeth to make room for the dental crowns that are crafted into the bridge.

Step No. 2: Your dentist will next make impressions of those anchoring teeth. Those impressions will be sent to dental lab technicians who will custom make your bridge. While you wait for your restoration, your dentist will place temporary crowns over the anchoring teeth so you can still use them.

Step No. 3: When your bridge is made and sent to our office, you will come in for a second appointment. Then, your dentist will use special dental cement to cement the bridge over the anchoring teeth.
