Posted .

If you’re an athlete who participates in winter sports, it’s important to keep your smile in mind while you practice and play. This is because if you don’t care for your teeth and gums, there is a chance you can suffer a dental injury or even develop dental issues. So, our dentist, Dr. Grant Brough, encourages you to keep your smile in tip-top shape while you’re active by doing the following things:

-Wear a mouthguard: A mouthguard can help you avoid dental injuries, like knocked-out, broken, and chipped teeth. This is because it’s a strong appliance that absorbs the pressure applied to the teeth when hard, forceful objects hit them.

-Avoid drinking sports drinks: Sports drinks oftentimes contain high amounts of sugar. And, sugar can cause cavities. So, it’s best to avoid drinking sports drinks so you can avoid cavities. It’s best to drink water instead.

-Attend your dental cleaning and exam appointments: Your dental checkups are very important. In fact, they are vital for a top-notch oral health and smile. So, don’t forget to attend your regular dental appointments every six months.
